Resale Rights Tips

What's With All The Resale Rights?

If you haven't been into Internet marketing for very long, you may have seen a lot of talk about resale rights. Now, if only it ended there, things would be very simple. However, when you have terms like resale rights, master resale rights and private label rights, and enough variations to choke a horse, it's easy enough to get confused and not know which end is up. Well, in this article, we're going to give you some simple explanations of what all these resale rights are. Hopefully, by the time you're done reading this, you'll at least have a decent idea of what the main difference is between the various rights you can get.

The simplest of all resale rights is just that, simple resale rights. That is where you have a package or product and the creator of the product gives you permission to sell the product for him, taking a commission for yourself. The product's price is set by the creator. You can't sell it for anything other than the price that he states. You also can't make any changes to the product in any manner shape or form. You can't put your name on it. Basically, you are just an affiliate of the product. In most cases, you're not even allowed to create your own sales pitch page. You simply send visitors to the main site with your affiliate link and get credit for any sales that come through that link. Those are simple resale rights.

Next we have master resale rights, which are a lot more flexible than just simple resale rights. With master resale rights, you can put the product up with your own sales page. You can sell it for any price that you like, though in some cases the owner will give you a lower limit to how much you can sell it for. This keeps people from selling a $97 product for $5. However, you can't make any changes to the product or put your name on it. In some cases, the owner will allow you to pass on master resale rights to others. This will be clearly marked in your agreement.

Finally, we have private label rights, which are the most flexible of all rights packages. With private label rights, you can basically do anything you want with the package unless restrictions are specifically stated. With a private label rights package, you can actually change the content of the package itself. Creators will give you the original source code in order to be able to do this. Essentially, you can create a whole new package from this. You can put your name on it, you can sell it for anything you want, you can even give it away if you so desire. You can package it with other private label rights packages. If the creator does have any restrictions at all, he will state these upon sale of the package.

The above explanations are simplified and in all honesty, not 100% accurate all the time because of liberties that creators take with the rights that they issue with their products. But for the most part, these descriptions are very close to what you will actually get with each type of resale right.

Are Private Label Rights Dead?

Private label rights, at one time anyway, were very popular. This is not to say that they still aren't, as many people don't have the time or skills to create their own products. But with all the private label rights out there and the insane prices that some of them are being "given away" for, you have to wonder if private label rights packages aren't going the way of the dinosaur. This article is going to take a look at the issue and make a few guesses, based on facts, perceptions and just some gut instincts. After reading this, you will hopefully come to your own conclusion.

Let's start with the facts. Private Label Rights are huge. There are quite a large number of PLR sites out there that constantly provide material for people to use as their own. The amounts of material are staggering. This brings up one very important question. How good can all of this stuff be? Certainly I am not saying that all of it is bad, or even a large part of it, but when you go from one site to another and see 45 books on the art of article writing, you have to wonder either one of two things. One, either some of these books are garbage, or two, many of them are all the same. In which case, you have to ask, do we need them all? I have personally read several books on article writing. For the most part, they all teach the same basic system. Imagine that hundreds of these books started coming out because somebody issued PLR rights to his own book.

Here's what I picture happening, as there are only so many people on the Internet to get all this stuff. Eventually, all these books will have circulated, people will realized that they're all the same, taken from the same basic PLR original, for lack of a better word, and they'll simply stop buying them. This will be especially true as the prices of these books come down. Why will they come down? Because with such a glut of supply on the market, vendors will realize that they will practically have to give these PLR products away or they won't be able to sell them. The law of supply and demand doesn't just apply to the real world.

Another problem with PLR rights is that there are a lot of people out there who simply don't play by the rules. They'll take a package that they don't have PLR rights to and they'll rewrite it as their own and sell it as a PLR package. This thing will start to circulate and eventually the original creator will see what was done and he'll be on the phone with his lawyer before you can say Jim Dandy. The mess of legal problems that will certainly arise because of bogus PLR products will definitely make buyers wary of purchasing these. I have personally been burned by an illegal PLR product and because of this will never purchase another one again.

Does this all mean that Private Label Rights are dead? Maybe, maybe not. But it certainly is something to consider if the bulk of your business is creating these products.

How To Make The Most Out Of Private Label Rights

For those of you who are interested in getting into the private label rights business, there are a few things you'll want to know before taking this beast on. Private label rights can be very profitable or they can be a total dead end street if you don't handle them properly. In this article, I'm going to give you some tips to give your private label rights package a fighting chance. Hopefully, after you are done reading this, you'll have a good solid foundation on which to build your private label rights business.

The first thing you want to do is find out what your competition is doing. This means you have to see what the other PLR products on the market are. You can then go in one of two directions. You can cater to the masses and just create products that are like all the ones out there, figuring that if it's already selling then yours will too, or you can come up with something completely original. If the idea itself has a demand, but hasn't seen light of day in the PLR world, you might just come up with something that will make you a mint. You may also come up with something that totally bombs. With anything new, there is always risk.

After you have decided what it is you want to do, you have to put it together as professionally as possible. This means having a table of contents, if it's a digital product, or a users guide if it's a piece of software. You don't want to just throw this together haphazardly. Part of putting together a professionally looking package is to make sure that you have a nice looking ebook cover. It's been determined beyond any doubt that products with ebook covers sell better than those without.

After your product is all put together, you're looking to distribute it. Now, if it's a digital product and you have affiliate links inside, one of the best strategies for distributing this package is to give it away. This may sound crazy, but if you do this, you will probably get more of them out in the market than if you sell it. There is a good chance that many of the copies given in this manner will bring you an income because of the affiliate links. Profiting from free PLR products is a very common practice.

If you do decide to actually sell your product, make it at a price point that will make it easy to sell. It doesn't matter how much you think it's worth. If you price things above a certain price point, usually over $100, they become very difficult to sell. So make things easy on yourself. Price your product to sell.

Finally, make sure you include a rights file with your package. The last thing you want is for people to do things with your package that their not supposed to do. A rights file won't stop them, but it will give you the legal ammunition to make life very difficult for them.

Just these few tips should give you a solid direction for you and your private label rights product.

How To Decide Which Rights Are Best For You

You've already made up your mind that you want to do something with resale rights. However, with all the different resale rights packages out there, you're not exactly sure if you want to go with just regular rights, master rights or private label rights. Well, hopefully, this article will point out some of the pluses and minuses of each and in so doing, will make it easier for you to decide which direction you want to go in.

The simplest of the resale rights packages is just plain resale rights, or as most people commonly call it, affiliate marketing. This is where you take a product that somebody made and simply promote it as an affiliate. This requires the least amount of work on the affiliates part. You don't need your own web site. All you have to do is send people to the sales page and you get credit for each sale. Theoretically, with simple resale rights, you can find a product and be selling it within minutes. It doesn't get any easier than this.

The downside of simple resale rights is that you have no control over anything. The creator can change the price, change the sales page and even discontinue selling it and there is nothing you can do about any of it. You are totally at the mercy of the creator. This is not a position you want to be in with 100% of your products if you intend to make a steady income online.

With master rights, you have none of the restrictions of regular resale rights, but you also have to put in a lot more work. To sell somebody else's product via master resale rights, you have to put up your own web site, especially if you want to change the pricing of the product, provided that you are allowed to do that. Some master rights specifically say that the product has to sell for a certain amount. Selling a master rights product is more work than just being an affiliate.

Finally, there's private label rights. With PLR, you have no restrictions at all, unless they are specifically designated in the rights file. The problem with PLR products is that you are totally in control. This means you are also in control of possibly turning a great package into a piece of garbage. Remember, with PLR products, you can make any changes you want. You can even completely redesign the whole thing with your own ideas. While this may turn it into a better product, it may also ruin it completely. PLR products are absolutely the most work of all. However, you can make a lot more money with PLR products that you can as just an affiliate because it becomes your product.

As you can see, there is good and bad with all resale rights packages. So you need to weigh the pluses and minuses and decide which is best for you. In the end, you need to decide if you want to put in more work for more money down the road, or less work now to make the quick score, even if you don't make as much.
