Adsense Marketing Tips
Adsense Arbitrage
I remember the very first time I heard this term. It was about 3 years ago
and actually at the time the principal was referred to as traffic middleman.
Well, we've come a long way since then and Adsense Arbitrage, or whatever
you want to call it, has made quite a few people a fair bit of money online.
So, what exactly is it? How does it work? Is it still as effective as it
was back in the good old days? Well, this article is going to answer those
questions and hopefully give you an idea if Adsense Arbitrage is something
that you want to get into.
What exactly is Adsense Arbitrage? Well, to put it simply, it is the practice
of directing traffic from one pay per click service to a page that displays
what are called Adsense ads. Adsense ads are actually other people's pay
per click ads that appear on your web page. If visitors click on these ads,
you receive a portion of what the ad cost the advertiser. An example of this
would be if you had a pay per click account set up at Miva, which is a low
cost pay per click site, and ran ads for the purpose of directing traffic
to your site where you had ads displayed from Google's pay per click advertisers.
Because, in general, Miva's rates are lower than Google's, you will make
a profit on each click.
In theory, this sounds pretty simple. Direct traffic from one pay per click
service to a page showing competing pay per click ads that pay higher. In
practice however, it isn't quite so simple.
The first problem you run into is that when you get people to click on your
ads at the one pay per click service, there is no guarantee that once they
get to your web site that they are going to click on the ads that are there.
Some people will get to your site, look around a bit and simply leave. If
you're site is not ideally optimized so that you are fairly sure of getting
a decent number of clicks to offset the cost of your pay per click ads, you
may actually end up losing money.
The second problem is that with the recent changes in Google pay per click
costs, ads that appear on content sites, the ones where you are directing
people to, cost less than the ads that appear on search engines. This drastically
reduces the difference between the cost of your ads and what you will make
from the Adsense ads. This one fact alone has drastically changed the climate
of Adsense Arbitrage to the point where it is very difficult to make the
kind of money that you used to make just a couple of years ago.
So, the answer to the question, is it as effective as it was years ago, is
no. That is why people who used to make $100 a day are now making that in
a month, if they're lucky. And the truth of the matter is, I don't see things
changing for the better any time soon.
Adsense Arbitrage just isn't what it used to be.
Adsense Ready Web Site
If you've been around for a while, you've heard the term Adsense ready web
site quite a bit. Maybe you know what this means and maybe you're not quite
sure. In this article, we're going to explain what an Adsense ready web site
is, what the advantages of having one are, what the drawbacks are, and finally,
my personal opinion of all this Adsense stuff. Hopefully, after you are done
reading this article, you will have a pretty good idea if Adsense is something
you'd like to tackle or if it's something that you just assume leave to those
with nothing better to do with their time.
So, what exactly is an Adsense ready web site? Well, there are companies
on the Internet that will sell you a web site, or for that matter, a ton
of web sites, that are already filled with your Adsense links. All you need
to do is supply them with your Adsense information, which they show you how
to get to them, and there you go. You've got a site, or sites, with your
Adsense ads ready to make money. Some companies will even sell you a package
of as many as a hundred sites or more. Sounds like you can make quite a bit
of money with this, doesn't it?
Okay, what really ARE the advantages of getting an Adsense ready web site?
Well, the obvious advantage is that you don't have to go through the trouble
of creating a site from scratch. Forget about the Adsense part of it. Just
creating a web site is a lot of work. Imagine trying to create a dozen of
them. The thought of creating a hundred is almost mind boggling. So yes,
there are advantages of getting an Adsense ready web site. It certainly will
save you a lot of time.
I know you're waiting for me to drop the other shoe. Well, here it comes.
The drawbacks to getting Adsense ready web sites are many. I'll start off
with the most important one. All of these instant ready sites all look the
same. They're made from templates. And quite honestly, most of them look
like crap. When people come to these sites, they can almost tell right away
that they're garbage and leave just as soon as they got there. There is just
nothing of real value at these sites. The content is poor, the design is
so-so and in general, you won't get many people to stay at any of these sites
for long.
I guess you can already figure out how I feel about these Adsense ready web
sites. Well, there's a reason for the way I feel. They don't work. Oh yes,
back in the good old days when people didn't know good content from crap,
these sites actually made a pretty penny. But now, with Adsense rates hitting
a new low anyway, and these sites looking like cookie cutter recipes, there
is really very little money to be made from Adsense ready web sites. But
don't take my word for it. By all means, pick yourself up a hundred of these
babies and see what you can do with them.
Just don't say I didn't warn you. Adsense ready? More like failure ready.
How To Make Money With Google Adsense
I'm going to start this article off with a disclaimer that may just make
you decide not to read the rest of it. So be it. Here's the disclaimer. Take
it for what it's worth to you. The chances of you making decent money with
Google Adsense the way things are today are about as good as my chances of
landing a date with Tyra Banks. Okay, now that we have that out of the way,
for those of you who want to know how to make money with Google Adsense,
keep reading. Just don't say I didn't warn you.
For those who don't know what Google Adsense is, first a brief explanation.
Google Adsense is an advertising system where sponsors paid ads appear on
your web site. If a person comes to your web site and clicks on one of these
ads, you get a portion of whatever Google gets from the click of the ad.
Sounds simple enough, doesn't it? Well, if only it really was that simple.
The truth of the matter is, making money with Google Adsense is anything
but simple. Don't worry, I'm about to explain why in just a second, so hang
on to your spaghetti westerns.
The first problem with Google Adsense is that they have some very strict
rules about how the ads can appear on your site. They can't appear near photos;
you can only have three blocks of ads per page; you can't disguise them to
look like something else; and on and on. The rule book is long enough to
choke a grown horse to death. It's almost as if they don't want you to make
any money. And actually, they do. But just not too much of it otherwise the
advertisers start getting ticked off because their ad expense is so high.
Remember, your income is their expense.
Another problem with Google Adsense is that because of the recent changes
at Google with Adwords rates and content pages having different bid values,
the income potential just isn't there anymore. For example, some keywords
that used to pay as much as maybe a dollar a click back in the good old days,
now, because of the different content site bids, may only pay 20 cents per
click. This has caused a great reduction in the income that people make from
Adsense. There are those who used to make thousands of dollars a month who
now only make a couple of hundred, if that. Yes, things have gotten really
bad.
Then of course there is the problem of getting your Adsense account banned.
Because of all the fraud out there, one false move on your part, or even
the hint of fraudulent clicks, and you're history. Once you are banned, that's
it. You might as well go find something else to do because your chances of
being reinstated are slim to none.
My point to all this is simple. There are many ways to make a decent income
online. I know because I use them. Google Adsense is just not one of them.
How To Add An Adsense Link
Okay, for those of you who are old pros at this, you're probably thinking,
how can this guy write a whole article on how to add an Adsense link to your
web page? I mean, come on. It's two seconds. Well, actually, it's more like
a split second. However, there really is more to adding an Adsense link to
your web page than you realize. Sure, if you're an old pro, it's a piece
of cake. But for those who have never done it, there are a few things that
you'll want to know. This article will go over those few things.
The first thing you have to be aware of is that Adsense has some very strict
rules about adding links to your page. For starters, you can only add three
blocks of links to any one web page. Adding more than that will be in violation
of their terms of service. And besides, it won't matter anyway as they will
only show the first three links that they find on the page. So play by the
rules and you'll be fine.
Another thing you have to understand about adding Adsense links, or more
correctly, Adsense code, is that Adsense gives you quite a few options as
to what kind of links to add. You can add single ad links, or blocks of three
ads, or banners, or a number of combinations. So before you even go about
heading over to the Adsense site to create your Adsense code, you better
take a good long look at the format of your web page, see what kind of space
you have available, and choose your links accordingly. For example, if you
want to place an Adsense block in the middle of an article, which is a very
effective method, you don't want to place a banner there. It will not look
professional at all. Probably a block of three text ads will be more appropriate.
The Adsense site itself is very easy to follow as far as creating your link.
Simply log into your account and go to Adsense setup. If you are thinking
about putting Adsense links on your content site, then choose Adsense for
content. You'll then be given the choice between ad units and text units.
You probably want to choose ad units as they give more options. Finally,
you'll be given a number of formats to choose from, which you can view on
their formats page. Just choose the format you want and then when you're
done, you'll be given your Adsense code, which you simply copy and paste
onto your web page in the spot you want it to appear.
The process is actually very simple. The hard part is getting people to your
site, which is a topic best left for another time. The key with adding an
Adsense link is placement. The best places are at the top, middle and bottom
of each web page. This way you have three shots at getting somebody to click
on your ads.
Adding an Adsense link is not rocket science. Making an income from it is
a totally different story.
How To Find Top Paying Keywords For Adsense
This is another one of those articles where I need to put a disclaimer up
at the top or people are going to start running off to creating web sites
for people looking for lawyers to bail them out of the drunk tank somewhere
in Austin Texas or sites promoting auto insurance quotes. So here's the
disclaimer. Take it for what it's worth to you. The rates you are about to
see in this article are NOT the rates that you are going to get paid whenever
somebody clicks on your Adsense ads for these niches. This is what the advertiser
is paying and Google will take a good chunk of it. Okay, now that we have
that out of the way, just how do we find the top paying keywords for Adsense?
There are actually three ways to do this. The first way is simply to go to
the Google Adwords site and use their traffic estimator. You'll of course
have to have a list of keywords to start with, but by simply plugging them
in, you'll see what Google estimates as your average cost per click as an
Adwords advertiser. Of course this really only gives you some idea of what
you'll actually get paid, as like I said, Google is going to take a healthy
chunk of this money. Plus, this is the going rate for search sites and not
content sites, which are generally lower. So it's not unusual that a keyword
that costs $30 only brings the Adsense click a buck or two.
The next way to find the top paying keywords for Adsense is to go to the
Google search engine itself and type in any keyword or keyword phrase that
you're interested in. After you do this, look to the right of the page at
how many paid ads there are. If there are a lot of paid ads for that keyword
or keyword phrase, that means there is a lot of competition for those keywords.
More competition means higher cost per clicks. Of course this is all relative
to the niche you're targeting. So if you want to get an exact dollar figure,
you can go to the Google traffic estimator and plug that keyword in to see
what the actual amount is.
The third way to find the top paying keywords for Adsense is to go back to
the search engine and type in the phrase "how to find top paying keywords
for Adsense." You are quite likely to find a number of sites that have already
done this research for you and have listed the top paying keywords. The problem
with these lists is that some of these sites don't update regularly, so you
don't know how accurate these figures are. Therefore, you have to be careful
with these lists. Always double check with Google.
There is no rocket science to doing this. If you're really hung up on doing
this, you can buy something like Keyword Elite and find all the high paying
keywords you want. It may very well be worth your time, depending on how
many sites you plan to put up.
The Death Of The Adsense Empire?
These days there seems to be the death of something coming out just about
every other day. One day it's ebooks, the next day it's gurus, and the day
after that it's the death of the death of articles. Well, this article may
very well be dead before it ever hits your hot little PC, but the information
in it is far from it. In reality, this article will give you some cold hard
truths to what you're dealing with and fighting against when trying to build
your own Adsense empire. Things are not quite as easy as they were in the
old days. This article will explain why.
First of all, back in the old days, you didn't need an Adsense empire to
make a decent amount of money with Google Adsense. You could make a nice
income from just a few web sites. A friend of mine had just one site and
was making $100 a month. That's not too bad for just one site. Imagine if
you had just 10 sites performing like that back in the good old days. That's
$1,000 a month just from having a site sitting out there gathering traffic.
Today, it's a whole different story. For one thing, people are a lot smarter
than they were back in the good old days. Back then, most people didn't realize
that these were even paid ads. They'd click on them not really knowing what
they were other than they had some catchy three line ad that appealed to
them because it was targeting the same kind of page that they were visiting.
Today, most people know what these blocks are and avoid them like the plague,
simply because they know they are making other people money. Believe it or
not, it's true. That's why your clicks have gone down dramatically.
Another problem that you have today that you didn't have back then is the
split costs between search and content sites. Back in the good old days,
you had just one price for all ads. So regardless of where those ads appeared,
you made the same amount of money. Today, advertisers can pick reduced costs
for ads that appear on content sites. So keywords that you used to get paid
$1 for are now paying you 20 cents, if that. So the revenue potential has
gone down quite a bit.
Finally, the flood of Adsense template sites really has killed the industry.
Because of all the garbage out there, Google has really had to clamp down
on cheaters. Click fraud is rampant and it doesn't take much to get your
account shut down anymore. Actually, if you start to make money with Adsense,
you really have to be careful that they don't start investigating where those
clicks are coming from, even if they are legit.
Sure, maybe if you have the resources to throw 1000 sites on the Internet
you can make good money. A friend of mine makes $1.2 million a year with
Adsense, so it can be done. It's just a lot harder than it used to be.
The death of the adsense empire? Maybe not, but it's certainly on life support.
